IO Web Helpdesk - Server Side Includes

A server side include (ssi) can allow you to create dynamic documents without cgi scripting. Here are some simple examples of things you can do can do with Server Side Includes. Be sure to check out Apache's SSI docs. Also, users should note that to enable your SSIs, you must make the HTML file user executable. The most common use of ssi's for IO customers is including a counter on your page. The tag:

will execute the program /cgi-bin/counter and output it's contents in the place of the "include virtual" tag like so: 1329

Including the contents of another file

If you have a separate standalone file that you wish to include in your HTML document, you can use a tag similar to this:

given, of course, that the file being included here is in the same directory.

Including Environment Variables

You can also include some environment variables in your page with the following commands:

Friday, 19-Nov-1999 17:21:26 CST

You can also change the date formatting according to the many standard 'date' format functions such as follows:

ssi.html

Apache/1.3.9 (Unix) PHP/3.0.12
