IO Web Helpdesk - MIME Types

Adding MIME Types

The Apache HTTP server provides the user with a considerable amount of power over how the server handles documents. You can declare mime types for your directory by creating a .htaccess file in your public-web directory. A typical entry would look something like this:

AddType audio/x-pn-realaudio .ra .ram
AddType application/x-shockwave-flash .swf
AddType application/futuresplash .spl
AddType application/x-director dir
AddType application/x-director dcr
AddType application/x-director dxr

Note that the webservers at Illuminati Online are configured with default mime types as distributed by the Apache Group. Due to the number of 3rd party mime types and the possibility of mislabeling mime types for other pages on our system, we will not add global mime configurations to our servers unless the type is specified in an RFC.
